About this deal

Game audio and lip-sync in videos exhibited no delays, which is expected with a dedicated wireless audio dongle but is often more of a challenge with Bluetooth.

The lack of sub-bass emphasis may mean that the rumble of explosions and gunfire is a little less impactful, but that might actually be preferable in competitive situations. One more thing—arguably the most significant thing — indicating this is a headset for kids: the Logitech G435 can limit audio output to either 100dB or 85dB. Since the headset only supports connections over USB dongle or Bluetooth, there’s no way to play on Xbox consoles, but gaming on PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch all work great. The USB-A dongle is color-coordinated with the headset and protrudes about an inch-and-a-half from the port.

The headset doesn’t have the suspension band of those two more expensive options, instead opting for a hollow, all-plastic frame and a headband wrapped in fabric. Watching Ted Lasso via my TV’s Bluetooth connection, audio was fully in-sync, and the connection remained solid when I wandered about 20 feet into the kitchen. The G435’s external functions are limited to a power button, volume toggle, and mute button, all housed above a USB-C charging port on the left ear cup.

Set to the 100dB limit, the headset can hit up to 110dB(SPL), and set at the 85dB limit, the Logitech G435 Lightspeed can reach 99dB(SPL) — it does limit, but it’s well over the specified level, meaning there’s still potential for hearing damage if you’re listening for more than 8 hours. The Logitech G435 isn’t compatible with Logitech G Hub, so there’s no software option for something like virtual surround sound. Editor’s note: this Logitech G435 review was updated on May 26, 2023 to include answers to FAQ submissions, clarify the microphone compatibility with the Nintendo Switch, add to the alternative recommendations section, and update formatting. The battery performance also means you’ll be able to fit a decent handful of sessions in before you need to charge it. To be clear, this doesn’t mean that there’s no environmental cost to producing this headset, but through the use of recycled plastic in its construction and the use of wood from FSC-certified responsibly managed forests in its packaging, the damage is minimized. You’d have to listen for 8 hours on end at 85dB(SPL) to damage your hearing, but gaming sessions are routinely hours long (at least, they certainly were when I was a kid). The headset is super lightweight and the ear pads are soft, which is definitely conducive to long gaming sessions. They seem to stop at a point, where going any further would make them more susceptible to brakes, either from wear and tear or from sudden drops.
