About this deal

At a passing glance, Olympic barbells and powerlifting barbells can look largely similar to the standard barbells we've mentioned above. However, Olympic barbells are around seven foot in length and powerlifting barbells feature a slightly short length at five to six feet, with a higher tensile rating for heavier lifts. Similarly, there will typically be more knurling to help you shift tin more safely during your barbell workout. Trap Bars and Hex Barbells So just because someone advertises their bars as having “the highest tensile strength on the market”, that doesn’t mean those bars are good. When Rep introduced their Power Bar V2 in end-to-end stainless steel, I bought two of them. One with the standard knurl and one with their EX aggressive knurl. These are recommended for beginners and non-advanced weight lifters. They are to be used with standard weight plates, which have a 1” diameter hole. Standard weight plates range from 0.5-25kg. A standard barbell maximum weight is approximately 120kg. Olympic Barbells

My very first “nice” barbell was the Grizzly power bar from American Barbell. The fit and finish on that bar always blew me away. Still does. I trained with that bar for a couple of years before switching to an end-to-end stainless steel bar by Rep Fitness. The best analogy I can give you is with cars. When I was growing up, we had a POS Ford Taurus. It was a terrible car. If you remember American cars in the 80’s, you know what I mean. Everything rattled. Nothing was well-made. Give your at-home workout routine a boost with our brilliant selection of barbells. Whether you're looking to bulk up or just get a little stronger and more toned, these are an ideal way to introduce some strength training into your regimen through exercises like squats and deadlifts. Why not go for one of our weight sets? That way, you'll be all set with everything you need to get started. And if it's just weight platesyou're looking for, we've got you covered on that front too.

Different types of Barbells

Why power bars and not Olympic lifting bars? I wrote an entire article about that, but the short version is that most folks shouldn’t be doing Olympic lifting movements at home, alone, without a spotter. All home gyms should start with a power bar and go from there.

Free weight sets such as barbells are regularly used in gyms and are a superb choice for home weight training. They make an ideal solution for anyone aiming to gain muscle or lose weight, all with one bit of kit.

The bar is topped off with premium metal endcaps with unique designs. This is a powerlifting barbell that stands out from the rest.

Earlier this year (2023), Rep discontinued all of their barbells and introduced a completely new lineup of bars ( we built you a handy guide to all the Rep bars you can read here). The barbell is the core of every strength training routine. The perfect, adaptable tool for supporting goals like muscle growth and strength development anywhere you train. This power bar has a stiff 29mm diameter, which complies with International Powerlifting Federation standards. Bronze bushings allow for consistent rotation while ensuring incredible strength and stiffness to withstand heavy loads. In fact, this bar can handle up to 1,500lbs. And ICYMI, barbells come in different sizes and vary when it comes to the amount of weight they can handle. You'll find another difference in the bar's sleeves, or the end of the bar where the plates are held, says Delgado. "Olympic barbells have two-inch, rotating sleeves; standard barbells have one-inch, non-rotating sleeves. The rotation on the sleeves create a more secure grip and reduces stress on your joints (wrists and elbows)." Got that down? This might sound weird, but we really don’t look at them much as long as they hit some minimums we like. Here’s why…Is strength training a part of your fitness routine? Atta girl. Then we're here to tell you that a barbell is a piece of home gym equipment that's worth the investment. A standard barbell will help you customize your strength-training workouts by allowing you to modify the weight you're lifting to focus on different muscle groups, says Maria Delgado, a CPT at Blink Fitness. "Barbells allow you to load the body's normal movement patterns with heavier weights, making you stronger over time. They can help you produce greater muscle mass and strength than [resistance bands or free weights]." In high school (also in the ’80s), I dated a girl that had a BMW. I remember the very first time I got in that car. Just the sound the door made when closing told me how much better this 3-series was than our crappy Taurus. Everything about the beemer exuded quality.

Once you've found the perfect barbell for you, make sure you choose an appropriate weight load, says Delgado. You don't want to go too heavy and risk injury. "Start light with good form and increase over time. If the load compromises your form, decrease the load. Remember it's always form over load and reps." If you need help figuring out proper form, seek help from a trainer. First of all, we train with them. In the end, that’s the best way to know what’s good and what’s not. But we also look closely at several key areas of each barbell. It’s in those areas where our 3 recommended barbells shine brighter than their competition. Sleeve Tolerances Take your strength training to the next level with one of our multi gyms. These are a worthwhile investment for serious fitness fans who want lots of options when it comes to working out with weights. You can add intensity to any workout by wearing a weighted vest- these are fully adjustable and come in a range from 5kg, right up to an 18kg vest. What can I do to prevent rust damage? How do I prevent damage to the patio? Is there protective equipment I need to get hold of? What other things should I be mindful of? Or am I a total moron for even considering this course of action? Most companies use the sharpness of their knurling to control grip. Typically, the sharper the knurl, the more grip. That’s one way to do things and it works okay. When coming to limited space within home gyms, barbells are an excellent choice as they help you save space. They enable you to work on almost all the body's muscle groups, making this the only piece of equipment you require for a thorough workout. It also has IPF-standard knurl markings to help you get into the proper position for your lifts, and it features smooth sleeves for easy loading and unloading of the plates. Barbell sets can adapt into almost every gym program. Allowing you to perform multiple amounts of exercises, including squats, chest press, lunges, curls, and more. They are very flexible pieces of equipment that help you meet your goals.
