About this deal

Each of the sections below starts with a traditional version of the story, and then adds in a second book (or two!) with a fun twist. Gingerbread Man Stories for Preschool I hope you have enjoyed reading this list of Gingerbread Man books as much as I enjoyed writing it! Do you have a child working on spoon use? Try this fun Feed the Gingerbread Man printable to setup a low prep scoop and pour activity or use tongs to feed the gingerbread man.

The people and animals chasing this gingerbread man are too sedentary to be able to keep up with him. Then the active fox catches up with him “in no time.” Meanwhile – and the best part of this book is the ‘meanwhile’– the boy is constructing a gingerbread house that the gingerbread baby takes refuge in. The Ninjabread Man by C.J. Leigh The Gingerbread Man Loose at the Zoo is another from the wonderful series I talked about at the beginning of this list. It’s full of riddles and zoo animals and fun! This version is otherwise very much the classic one, with a farmyard chase and a cumulative refrain. And if you want additional international variants of this story, Kid World Citizen has this long list.) Maybe using scissors is not the skill level of your child so try a Gingerbread Pom-Pom Match activity and use tongs as a pre-scissor skill.

I love The Gingerbread Kid Goes to School because he hops out of the principal’s lunch and runs all through the school as people try to catch him. It’s technically a reader but the illustrations and story are so cute that it is a fun one to read aloud!

Try this fun idea of some Gingerbread Hokey Pokey using a classic game with a gingerbread theme to work on body awareness and motor planning. Gingerbread Man Fine Motor I created this image for you to pin if you want to save this to reference later. All you do is hover over the picture below and hit “Save” to save it to one of your boards 🙂

Leigh’s version is completely different than the one above with the same title. This story takes place in a “hidden dojo” where the sensei bakes a ninjabread man. Note that there are two completely different ninja gingerbread man books with this title – I’ll tell you about the other one below) Easy Paired Stories for Kindergarten If you have kindergartners who can sit for, and follow, a longer story, this section has a few more options for you. There are two more classic Gingerbread Man books that make a solid starting point for students. These are a little more complex than the ones I listed for preschoolers, but still easy enough for young kindergartners to follow. The Gingerbread Man by Louise Martin and Gail Yerrill Inside: This list of Gingerbread Man books is organized by grade and listed in pairs or groups of stories that are great to teach side by side. This Gingerbread Manbook activity from Fun-A-Day pairs well with these books. GINGERBREAD MAN CRAFTS This gorgeous book, written and illustrated in Brett’s typical Scandinavian style, is more complex than the basic storyline. Love this adorable cowboy and desert themed Gingerbread Man book. The Gingerbread Cowboy is so engaging and has amazing vocabulary! It’s such a fun one and your kids will probably ask you to read it again and again. Since that one was such a hit, The Gingerbread Man Loose at Christmas is obviously a favorite too! I love the message of showing appreciation for the people in the community and spreading holiday cheer. Adorable! Try Gingerbread Passing to work on core strength, coordination, motor planning, and social skills. It’s a great team work activity or it can be simplified to have one child work on passing a gingerbread man from one place to another.

You can also try these fun Gingerbread Man Gross Motor Dice printables to further incorporate movements related to the book. Read and move together! Gingerbread Man books are one of my favorite picture books themes to read aloud! It is such a fun story with many different versions that tell the classic story in so many unique ways. Plus, kids love them and they’re so fun to read to them! 🙂 The Gingerbread Boy is a cute story about a New York couple that don’t have children yet so they bake a gingerbread boy who escapes and runs through the city. Really fun illustrations!

Ten Tiny Gingerbread Men is a cute one for younger kids to practice counting when reading it to them.
