About this deal

Now, however, corrupted by the Warp as they are, they have a ravenous desire for personal glory. This is accompanied by a deep loathing for the upper echelons of their Knightly household, those who lord their power over the lesser Nobles. You can only select the Despair ability if you selected the Despair or Doom ability in the previous battle round. This is a pretty standard all comers dog spam list. Generally piloting it comes down to keeping your target priority on point and making sure your opponent has to deal with multiple knights a turn. With the executioners being less valuable than the brigands, I generally try and have them be my aggressive objective holders since every shot going at them is a shot that could have gone at a brigand. You’ll notice there’s only a single stalker in the list, this is for two reasons. One, every stalker you add provides another Assassination target since they’re characters. Two, ironically the place knights often struggle is into marine equivalents. The chain cannon doesn’t quite get there and the thermal lance is overkill. The executioner auto cannon is not ideal at only AP 1 but it gets the job done.

Chaos Knights may be playing second banana to their smooth brethren for now, but there’s still a lot of unique things they can do. By leveraging strong, independent datasheets they can be an oppressive force on the tabletop and can overwhelm most factions in the game. Primarily they’re a shooting army now, but they have access to some good hybrid threats and if the Karnivore ever comes down (please) you can probably expect to see that pop up in a few lists. This faction probably won’t win any GTs but they continue to be a fun force to put on the tabletop. The second big new addition is the Favour of the Dark Gods. You can now either dedicate your Chaos Knights to one of the four Chaos Gods or mark them as undivided Chaos. For each god and Undivided are three additional abilities to choose from, which costs extra points or power. The Phobos-armoured Space Marines are built from existing Infiltrators and Incursors, and come with a new upgrade sprue to put together a wide range of new elite specialists. In battle, War Dogs are often deployed to eradicate those foes who are deemed beneath the notice of their despotic masters. Yet even the most ignominious task they carry out with savage fervour. The pain and suffering they inflict on others feeds their hatred, for through the dying screams of their enemies they are able to imagine the deaths of their own Fallen Noble overlords. Gone are the days of conversions for Traitor Guard because this new set looks pretty amazing paired with the existing Renegade Commisar and Ogryn! The maw is done with Bugman’s Glow and the teeth are Rakarth Flesh. I’ll shade the whole thing with Agrax Earthshade and then re-highlight with Bugman’s and Rakarth, then do edge highlights with Reaper Polished Bone on the teeth and a mix of Polished Bone and Bugmans for the raised parts of the gums. I’ll also hit the Gold parts with Retributor Armour and then wash it with Agrax. Credit: Robert “TheChirurgeon” Jones Chaos Knights are pretty new to the 40k setting and so haven’t had much written about them. However, if you want to read more, you can find them as the antagonists of the short story Apex Predator by Gavin G Smith, which follows Imperial Knight pilot Sethana going up against Chaos Knights. Playing Chaos Knights The end result: Two War Dogs, ready to rumble. It’s a shame they aren’t Moiraxes, but maybe I’ll do those at some point if they survive the 9th edition transition with good rules. Converting a Knight Despoiler: The Slaughterknight

Loping forwards on powerful mechanical legs, War Dogs close upon their foes like bestial predators. With each stride the grating pant of their engines grows louder, and the shudder created by their metallic footfalls becomes more inescapable. Before we begin we’d like to thank Games Workshop for providing a preview copy of the book, plus some of the models seen in the review. Why Play Chaos Knights? I hit some detailed areas with Mephiston Red, then paint the teeth with Rakarth Flesh, the eyes with Reaper Pure White, and the tongue with Bugman’s Glow. Credit: Robert “TheChirurgeon” JonesHere’s the current project status. He’s about 80% done. The next step is to do more detail and highlighting work on the face around the mouth and eyes using Evil Sunz Scarlet, hit the teeth with Reaper Polished Bone, and the tongue with Emperor’s Children Pink. Then similar to how I did War Dog mouths, I’ll coat the whole thing with ‘ Ardcoat to give it a wet, glistening look. I also need to add weathering and heat burns to the guns around the ends of the barrels. I’ll normally do that with just Nuln Oil, but I’m looking to get a bit fancier and will likely try to add some Drankhof and Duruchii Violet this time to get something more realistic. We’ll likely cover heat burns in a future How to Paint Everything, so stay tuned for that. Overall I’m happy with how he’s come along but I’m eager to finish him when I’m home again. The Forge World Chaos Knight Credit: Robert “TheChirurgeon” Jones For the bone armor I start by doing a two or three coats of Zandri Dust before recess shading with Agrax. The highlights are stipled on with a big drybrush, I don’t really know if this is normal but I thin the paint pretty heavily before I do so and I leave a pretty minimal amount of paint on the brush to the point where it is almost dry. I usually do two to three passes of Ushabti and Screaming Skull where I successively cover a bit less on each pass. Chaos Knights have come a long way since that pamphlet in mid-2010s first introduced their rules. With this new book they’ve achieved a much more visually distinct feeling, and thanks to the introduction of the new psychic knight abhorrent, they feel like a fully different faction to Imperial Knights.
