The Philips Norelco Bodygroom 5000 in this review is the BG5025/40 variation, widely available and pretty much the one to get in 2023. The only negative we came across design-wise was that the double-ended construction makes it less convenient when it comes to trimming in those hard-to-reach spots, as the larger foil end can often get in the way. For example, the ones that come with the Braun Series 3000 body groomer don’t glide smoothly on the skin and the teeth are uncomfortably sharp.

That being said, the hypo-allergenic foil leaves unmatchablely smooth skin with no skin irritation and no bleeding. In the past I had to apply baby powder as the combs would simply stick to the skin and hop all over the place. Luckily, the Philips Bodygroom 5000 is extremely forgiving and in my experience one of the very best out there for trimming pubic hair.

The HC4250 is a really good option if you’ll only be doing very basic haircuts (like for example a buzz cut). The integrated adjustable trimmer, along with great battery life are the highlights of this groomer as most other products get at least one of them wrong.

It has a great track record — in fact, I’ve now had my BG 7030 for four years and it still holds the same charge. I’m happy to report that the 3 guards included with the Philips Bodygroom 5000 meet all these requirements and are very enjoyable to use.

My final gripe with it is the very basic battery indicator which simply turns orange with the battery is almost dead, which can take you by surprise. The culprit is the swiveling mechanism of the foil head that allows it to move up and down — because it’s not fixed, it vibrates a lot and amplifies the perceived noise. This is really important for the overall trimming experience when using a guard to get the desired hair length. The Bodygroom 5000 features the same foil shaving head, but it’s fixed, so not quite as easy to use depending on the area you’re trimming.It will be very fast and practical since again you will be pulling the groomer toward you instead of pushing it in an awkward way without much leverage. This will probably come as no surprise — the Philips Bodygroom 7000 is the one that makes the most sense as an alternative to the Bodygroom 5000. So in terms of battery life, the Philips Bodygroom 5000 is not anything special, but again, it is good enough. You’ll find out what it’s like to own and use it regularly, how it deals with hair on various body parts and whether it’ll be a good choice for your needs.
